How semaglutide works

It mimics GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after you eat, and acts in three places.

  • In the brain

Acts on the signals for appetite and feeling full.

  • In the stomach

Slows how quickly food leaves your stomach.

  • In the pancreas

Helps release insulin when blood sugar rises.

About semaglutide

Common questions about compounded semaglutide.

It's a once-weekly injection you give yourself at home. Your first shipment includes instructions and supplies.

The most common side effects of semaglutide are stomach-related: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and stomach pain. They're usually mild and tend to ease as your body adjusts, which is one reason your clinician starts you on a low dose and increases it gradually. Less often, more serious side effects can happen, including pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, low blood sugar, kidney problems and allergic reactions. In animal studies, medications in this class caused thyroid tumors. You shouldn't take semaglutide if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). This isn't a complete list. Your clinician goes through the risks with you before you start. If you have severe stomach pain, signs of an allergic reaction or any symptom that worries you, contact your care team, or call 911 in an emergency.

Yes. To switch to a different plan length when your current plan ends, or to cancel, message your care team. If you cancel, your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for and you won't be charged again. We don't refund the remaining months.
